Essential setting · Android

Don't miss a single encouragement:
let Cobbr run in the background

On Android, one single setting can make the difference between a run carried by your loved ones' voices… and total silence. Good news: it takes 30 seconds to fix.

The setting, on video

Under 30 seconds, done once. Here's exactly what to tap on your phone.

App info → Battery → “Unrestricted”

Why is this essential?

To save battery, Android pauses apps running in the background. That's great for most apps… but disastrous for a running app.

During your race, your screen is locked and your phone is in your pocket or on your armband. If Cobbr is being “optimized” by Android, the system can freeze GPS tracking and block voice message playback: your distance stops moving, and your loved ones' encouragements never play.

Setting Cobbr to “Unrestricted” tells Android to let the app do its job during your run, even with the screen locked. It's the setting that guarantees every “Keep going!” reaches you at the right kilometer.

How to enable “Unrestricted”

  1. 1

Long-press the Cobbr icon, then tap “App info” (or go to Settings → Apps → Cobbr).

  2. 2

    Tap “Battery”.

  3. 3

    Select “Unrestricted”.

The exact wording can vary depending on your phone brand (Samsung, Xiaomi, Google, etc.): look for “Battery”, “Battery usage” or “Battery optimization”, then pick the most permissive option for Cobbr.

What about my battery?

Don't worry: this setting won't drain your battery day to day. Cobbr only uses GPS and audio while a run is active. The rest of the time, the app stays quietly asleep like any other.

The app will remind you too

If battery optimization is still active when you start a run, Cobbr will show you a reminder with this same video. But the simplest thing is to do it right now — one less thing to worry about on race day.

Ready for race day?

Setting done? All that's left is to share your link with your loved ones and run with their voices.
